WSK Super Masters Series Round 3
7-10 March 2019
Lorenzo Patrese returned to the track this weekend for round three of the WSK Super Masters Series held at the International Circuit La Conca, near Muro Leccese in southern Italy.
Lorenzo had raced at La Conca only once before at this very particular circuit which has a very grippy surface. On Friday in qualifying he ended the day in 22nd position overall among a field of 75 drivers.
The weekend continued with highs and lows and Lorenzo, as often happens, found you can touch the sky one day and the following you are at the bottom. So after the eliminatory heats and prefinal he qualified for final B.
He made a great start and was up to 9th at the end of lap 1. Then, on successive laps, he progressed up to 8th, then 7th, then 6th! While the leading group of four were clear and away ahead, Lorenzo was closing in on the Russian Alexander Gubenko for 5th and on the penultimate lap he was through and held the position to the chequered flag.
Now we go to Sarno in two weeks with stronger feelings and ready to fight for European championship events.
