Iame Series Italy

English

From Fontainebleau and the European Childrens Championship last weekend, to Adria for round six of the Iame Series Italy today. Lorenzo Patrese is a well travelled and competitive young sportsman!

His return to the Iame Series with Team Driver Racing Kart would be a tough challenge as X30 Junior is an increasingly competitive category, however Lorenzo began the day perfectly as he set the fastest time in morning warm-up.

Qualifying practice followed soon after 11am in the sunshine and Lorenzo ended the session with a time of 51.117s which would put him 5th on the grid for the pre-final.

The temperature had risen to 36C as the drivers formed up for the pre-final. At the end of the first lap Lorenzo had dropped to 8th, but next time around he was setting fast sector times and regained a position on lap 2. A yellow flag next time around slowed the field until racing resumed on lap 5. Chasing Mattia Simonini for 6th position, Lorenzo was again setting fast lap times and looking for a way to pass, but the order was to stay the same at the chequered flag.

Starting 7th on the grid for the final, run over 12 laps of the Adria circuit, Lorenzo made progress immediately and was up to 6th at the end of the first lap. He had a gap to make up on the top five but was lapping as quick, or quicker, than those ahead. Lap by lap, tenth by tenth, Lorenzo was closing on Daniele Demartis. At the end of lap 8 he made the pass and was up to 5th position. With just a few laps to go 2.5s separated Lorenzo from his team-mate Mattia Ingolfo in 4th position, and although he reduced the margin to just 0.5s it was not quite enough at the chequered flag.
